I know when I moved here making friends was something that I stressed out about, worried about, and wondered if I would find friends. This is not really an advice post, this is a post to show you just how small the world really is.
Over the weekend one of my friends Monique got married. We were excited to go and get to see and Aussie wedding. This wedding was not a typical wedding though, her parents are from Vietnam, so it had an Asian flare, and he has Italian roots, and those got to show through.
Every year is the same, it turns November, and everyone starts stressing. Do not stress about what is under the tree. That is not what matters. Now, do not get me wrong. Still give something, but do not give things. Give Memories! Give time with the people you care about. Give things that do not have to be dusted, cleaned, or moved around. Give things that are stored in your brain. I recently typed a post about gift giving for giving people, but I understand that many people really want to actually have a gift under the tree that spoils the person you love. Here are some ideas.
This year we are really missing Thanksgiving with all our family. We miss getting to have so many people over for Thanksgiving that we had to break it into two meals. When we were in Conway, I would wake up early in the morning, go running a long run because St. Jude Marathon was close, and hurry home for all the cooking. After my run with my running club, I miss so much, Josh and I would start the cooking. Every family has those tried and true recipes. I had Mamma send me ours the other day.
Ok, I know my blog has had a lot of inspirational things on it lately. Not living in the Bible Belt anymore, I really look to a lot of things for inspiration. I go throughout my day looking at things with different eyes. I started my blog to share my travels and life, and was sending my more inspirational posts to another blog. Then I realized why not share all my thoughts on my personal blog. When we moved to our new house, we did not have internet for over a month. I had the idea to not just my travel thoughts, the inspirational things could help others while I didn't have internet to write new posts. So, I picked my favorite ones and decided to post them on here. I am caught up now, have internet, and will not overload you with inspirational thoughts, hopefully. Sorry, if you were wondering what has happened to me. Do not worry though we have some fun trips planned in the near future, and I can't wait to share them.
I see gift giving posts all the time when reading other blog posts so, I decided to do a different type of gift post. I will be the first to tell you, my family is not really big on gifts. My Mamma has always given "memories" instead of gifts, and my Dad has always taken me shopping. Now to my Dad's credit, when I was really little, I acted like a spoiled brat. He bought me Christmas gifts, I did not like them, and I took every single gift back. That was kind of the last of my Dad's gift buying days. I still feel bad about it, and don't worry he still brings up the Christmas when I acted like Veruca off of Willy Wonka.
Lately I have been reading, A LOT. I always love to read peoples reviews, to help me decide what to read next. SO, here is the list of books I have read lately.
I have really been raised to not collect things, collect only memories. So, when I see a souvenir shop it is not a temptation to go inside. I do want something small to remember our trips. We have a tradition of collecting crosses.
Now, sometimes we buy it and other times we get things to make it ourself. Honestly, our handmade crosses are some of my favorite.
