About a month ago, Josh and I decided it was time to stop sitting on bean bag chairs, and get "adult furniture" for our apartment. We found two comfy red leather recliners that seemed to want to come home with us. Of course we were happy to move from bright orange bean bag chairs to "adult chairs", but when you start the task of updating, it seems to snowball. We quickly decided to replace a rug in our living room, and add matching pillows to look more inviting. This process took about three weeks total. The next Saturday after we got all of this situated we were eating dinner, Josh stated, "You know now that we have this apartment like we want it, we will have to move." Oh how I wish he would have never said that!
The following Tuesday our realtor called with the shocking news that our landlords wanted their unit back. Yes we had to move, and move quickly. I searched and searched for apartments online. Real Estate works quite differently here. Realtors can only show property that they specifically listed. Therefore you must work with many different real estate agents. Very time consuming. Rental properties are in high demand. It is very common for property to be snatched up before being on the Internet for six hours. People rent them sight unseen.
Because rentals go so quickly, the agent really doesn't care if you see it or not. Agents will have one fifteen minute inspection time and you just hope you can make it. When we rented our current apartment we went through a lot of hoops and red tape. Needless to say, STRESSED or FRAZZLED would describe my demeanor last week.
I had to get busy making inspection appointments. The first appointment I ended up crying because it was scary and loud. Another appointment we missed because I entered the time incorrectly in my phone. I should have just rested and known God was in control though. Funny how stressed and worked up we can get when we think we have to figure it all out. How comforting when I finally go to my knees and say, "Ok God, I don't know what to do, HELP?" I can just picture him throwing his hands in the air, and yelling, "FINALLY." Our current agent called the day I gave up control. He had just listed a place that he thought we would like. He was giving us first chance before the pictures and information went online.
Of course we jumped on it and said YES! We did go look at it, but in reality we just wanted a safe location and a view. Since we were able to keep the same realtor we didn't have to complete another big stack of paperwork. There will be many blessings with this move; we will stay in our same suburb of Hamilton, I can continue with my same gym and gym friends, and we will be in closer proximity to the river. It is above a grocery store that is open until 10:00 pm every night. Now, for my non- Australian friends that is huge. There have been many weekends at 5:15 where Josh or I have sprinted to the grocery store to grab something before they close at 5:30. It was a WIN, WIN, WIN. Also, Mamma and Aunt Becky will be here to help us move. So glad I surrendered to God. His plan is always best.
Another blessing with staying with the same rental company is that he worked it out so that we overlap only two days with the rent. I worried for no reason, please just don't tell Josh I admitted that. He said it would all work out the second we found out a move was necessary.
Can't wait to move in and make the place ours. Decorating ideas anyone?....or maybe we shouldn't decorate, we don't want this to happen again.
