The 1.5 hour drive to Cape Tribulation from Port Douglas is full of many things to see.  Cape Tribulation is where the untouched Daintree Rainforest  meets the Great Barrier Reef of the Pacific Ocean.

From Mossman to the Daintree River we drove through countless huge sugar cane fields. Then after a short “old school” cable ferry ride over the Daintree River we were on our way. Immediately we rolled the windows down and enjoyed the tall trees and beautiful citrus smell.  We stopped at several look out spots and different beaches as we drove the tight and curvy road deep into the rainforest.  Every view was breathtaking and a gentle reminder of God’s handiwork.  We walked scenic trails through the rainforest enjoying the canopy of trees, vegetation, and birds.  Trails also lead to nearly deserted beaches. There was so much space and time to wander and wonder about this awesome spot on the Earth.

A local had suggested a certain crocodile tour.  We found the guide and were not disappointed!  He was a hoot with his anecdotes, animated commentary and dry sense of humor.  His twenty five years experience on the river was evident as he spotted several crocodiles and filled us in on the life of a croc as the male traveled from the ocean and up the river for the mating season - which we were in.  He graphically described two male crocs he had seen fighting just the day before.  We found those two males and saw the signs of the fight - blood, flesh, tears on hide!  Mangrove trees lined the river and supported the vegetation behind it.  He told of sad faces “in different languages” on his boat when he was not able to locate a croc.  There were only smiles on our boat

Another highlight I knew I had to show Momma and Aunt Becky was the Daintree Ice-cream Factory made from locally grown fruit.  Each day four different flavors are available in one bowl.  Few options and bowls prepared and stored in the freezer made this a low maintenance and quick purchase. A self guided tour of the different fruit trees on their land was available.  We were a tad worn out so didn’t take advantage of this.  You could tell this was a favorite with the locals as well as tourists.
