.As a kid my Dad loved car racing. I remember many summers going to visit him and we heading to the dirt track to watch the normal Saturday night races or the "Grandaddy" of that racetrack, the Showme 100. (The track was in the showme state and they went 100 times around the track. Original, uh?) As I grew up Dad even had his living room decorated in the Mark Martian motif. So when he came to visit a trip to Daytona was a must.
We got there late because I95 was shut down due to a car wreck. The 1.5 hour trip ended up taking almost 3 hours. So, they rushed us to our group where we started the VIP tour. I know NOTHING about the sport but it was really cool to see Dad getting to see all the history. He is not really into car racing anymore but he still enjoyed it.
The picture of the road above is a mockup of the track turns. The turns sit on a 31 degree angle.
The winner of this years race. Can someone tell me why there is grass on the hood? Everyone thought the grass was so funny, I decided I had asked enough dumb questions for one day. Sometimes the clueless blonde knows when to ask later :)
The press box view
This light was pretty cool I thought each ring is a model of all the tracks they own
This picture I thought was neat, the first Daytona races were held on A1A and the beach. Some races had to be cut short they said because of high tide coming.
When we were taking our picture in the winners circle they said do the Igy shuffle and showed me what it was. Well you know me, why not?!? Well, the reason number one not, I looked like an idiot when they took the picture.

This was a replica of the father of Nascars office.
We made it to the finish line of our tour, I still really didn't learn a lot,but it was a lot of fun looking around, watching Dad,and seeing all the background things. Like did you know they let 500 people sit in the winners circle area in a building, park at the winners circle, food and drink included, $6,000 for 11 events?!?! There have been 18 live births out a the speedway, and many other triva facts.
Snapchat fun from the day.
