I went to church last Friday night and, I wanted share. I feel like so often we get so hung up on the details that do not matter, we need a reality check of what really matters. Here are my notes...
Acceptable- pleasing to the receiver
When we worship, who are we worshiping?
What makes God pleased?
The most acceptable worship is what God finds acceptable.
Not what you like, not the song, and that list could go on....
Now that you have seen him dance, and have probably judged him. I DID!
Let me tell you the story they told us in church. He was in a situation and didn't think he would ever walk again, he made a promise that if he ever moved again he would worship with his whole body. I did some research myself and online it says he was born with a disease that could leave him paralyzed Regardless, it made think different about how he worships. So often we think or judge people who worship different, but if they have clean hands and pure heart. What else matters?
What is acceptable hands up or hands down in worship? Who decides? Clean hands isn't just I washed them, but hands in The Bible goes with activity. It is the action and activities for our life. You can't act holy in church and then treat your brothers bad. Jesus said, "others will know you love me through your actions." It's not hands up hands down, it's how you treat people. Aren't you glad God didn't come just for Jews? Our activity is justified through our identity.
Pure heart is your intentions toward God and people. Think about taking care of your heart. The external choices effect your insides. How does that help explain our spirituality? External choices effect your insides. What is your intentions when you worship? Pure heart isn't I am perfect, pure heart is trying your best to love God.
Acceptable worship is when we seek Gods actions while loving him, when we let our hearts for God regulate the hands. I really don't think when we get to the perly gates we are going to hear, "Hands up people this way, Hands down people this way."
Maybe those words were something you needed to hear like I did. I feel like I am really blessed to go to a great church with amazing speakers, and should share when I can.
