Moving again.....maybe?!?

So, we "think" we might have bought a house.  I will explain the whole "think" after it is in writing and we have signed the dotted line, but let's just say it has been the weirdest buying experience up until now.  Everyone we have explained everything to, gets this blank stare and has some comment about how that is odd.  Don't worry I will tell, but want to make sure it all goes through first.  Yeah, this house, could be on your prayer list.  We are ready to set roots, we have been renting for the past three years.  We miss being able to really make a house a home.  The house we live in now, is ok, but with the traffic, it is just not working out, and relaxing is one word, I would NEVER use to describe it.  It is only about 15 miles from Glass Doctor and about 30 miles from my school, but just yesterday it took me one hour to get home from Glass Doctor after work.

This is a picture we took at the park two blocks away from the house.  We will share house pictures, once we can really get in there, (again, explain later).  The house is about a block away from the river, two blocks from a park that reminds us of Brisbane, five miles from the beach, and ten miles from Josh's work.  I can also get to work without driving on I95, which is huge.

The big thing about this house......it is UGLY!  It is the worst house on the street.  It has to be completely gutted!  That is where you come in....once we sign on the dotted line (hopefully we will) we are going to go in, knock walls down, remove all the flooring, and start an overall.  I have had fun playing on Pinterest, dreaming,  Here is my mood board.   ( I sound like I know what I am doing using the words mood board right?!?!?...HELP!!!!)

Outside House Color

The outside is cinderblock but has been bricked over.  I never thought I would suggest painting brick, but WOW the brick is UGLY!  So anyone want to give their two cents on painting brick??? What do you think about these colors?

I am not really sure which colors.  I really liked "a new grey" I saw in a friends home the other day.  Again, Suggestions?!!?!?

If we can get all the floor up, we want to stain the concrete.  Any tips?  Suggestions?  Ideas?

Have floating shelves like this, but have a mirror backsplash like the one on the right but have it set up like the one on the left.  Our tech said having a mirror backsplash is not the best behind an oven, so if we have to put the oven on a full wall (planning on putting it in the island) putting tile behind the oven.  I do not want a bright mirror though.  So we are thinking a bronze tinted mirror, like the one to the side here, on the backsplash. Again, suggestions?!?!?!?

I would like to add these extras to the cabinets.  A dog will be one of the first things we get.  The kitchen can be in two places.  If we put it where we want, then we will have an expense of moving a kitchen.  The other option is leaving it where it is, making the island turned out a bit.  The issue with that idea is part of the room is a step down, and has a lower ceiling than the rest of the room.  I know pictures will help explain.  Suggestions?!?!?!

The master bedroom has a wall with a window into another room (they closed in the carport) we are thinking to cover the hole, and since there is no sheetrock in the house. (The walls are cinderblock and plaster) What do you think about the third picture down, the wood and squares on a wall?

The master bedroom also needs a slightly bigger closet.  Anyone ever built a closet?

Anyone ever done their own trim to make the house look better?  What about covered popcorn ceiling?

We have an inspection on Monday.  We will find out if the house is ok structurally (it was built in the 50's), if we can knock walls down, and figure out about the lower floor in the room.  We also hope to find out what, if all, has been permitted.  All the websites talking about the house do not agree on square footage.

If everything passes, and no more hiccups (there have been tons already) we should close in July.  We hope to do most of the work our self, but would gladly take help. If everything goes as planned, our mortgage should be around what we are paying in rent.  We have a very very cheap rent for the area (we are at the end of our county, far from most things) Yes we are still in opening a business mode, and not wanting to be extravagant, but if it is around the same, why not?!?!

Anyone for a working beach vacation?  Anyone still think "work camp" would be fun?  Any DIY project that you did cheap but added value to your house to help make it a home?  Any suggestions about doing this are appreciated!  Anything you wish you would have done?  Would not have done?  Something you love about your house?  Something you hate about your house?  Let's start a dialogue.  We need help!
