As I wake up this morning, watching the news, reading messages. Over whelmed is an understatement. We had had people we haven't talked to since high school offer a place to stay, people from college offer to fly in and get us and bring us back as soon as possible. We truly have amazing friends and family. There are so many things going through my mind. So this post might be a little jumbled, sorry.
The first thing that kept going though my mind all day yesterday. It was a normal day yesterday, it will be a normal day today. Can you imagine when people didn't have a warning. They were having a normal day and then BAM! this huge storm. The verse that kept going in my mind was 1 Thessalonians 5:2 "you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night." Don't you know people back in the day thought God was coming when the hurricane came on land. When I looked up that verse in my Bible, I loved the verse I had highlighted. 5:16-18 "Rejoice always. Pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
I totally believe that God has given us time to prepare, and prepare we have. We have food, water, candles, (need to get a deck of card), generator, and plenty of items to help after the storm. I know many people think it is careless staying, but we have found a safe place, and know we are needed for after the storm. No, we did not think about the hurricane aspect when we opened our glass shop, but throughout all of this business we feel like we are where God wants us. So, we know we are doing the right thing.
Honestly, most people we know are staying. Yes, I am scared, but we know we need to be here for the aftermath. I keep thinking of the Bible story where Jesus was asleep in the boat and the storm was going crazy, they woke him up scared, he replied, "you of little faith, why are you so afraid?" then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and waves obey him." Matthew 8:23-27
Another positive post to bite me in the butt! The photo above is the post for today. Yesterday was a little stressful just helping people and getting final stuff, but honestly the amount of people that were still in the shops and all the workers that are still here so everyone could get supplies was crazy. The sandbag lines are still crazy long. Our church is adding on to their main campus and they let anyone make their own sandbags out of their building materials. They put the golden shovels in the sand pile and put on facebook come and get it. I went and bought pillowcases and got a couple for our front door at the office. The governor has been amazing. I honestly don't know his party, (and really don't care) he gives great updates, and forces people to stop their life and prepare. He canceled school for the entire state today (Friday) Yes it is crazy at the moment, but honestly there is so many good things happening around us at the moment. It is great to see the good in people.
We knew the roads were bad, but we had no clue. It took some friends of ours over twenty hours to get to Atlanta (and that is still in the cone). We do have great news though, this morning they are saying, they are expecting it to be a Cat 2 when it hits us, but we are on the "ugly" side of the storm. If the eye goes on the east side of Florida, we will be on the "clean" side but it will stay in the water and keep his power. (that was yesterday's projection) If the eye goes right up the middle (today's projection) it will loose power as it gets off the water, but that will put us on the "ugly" side and be more likely to get tornados.
Ok, so what can you do now? Pray! Pray, and let me say it again, Pray. We have a God that, "even the winds and waves obey him." Next, please check on our parents, they are stressed, but please don't give them more information that is going to stress them anymore. None of our parents have done this hurricane business. They do not need more information that is going to stress them out more. Sunday night, party at my Mom's house (she just doesn't know) I just know she doesn't need to be alone. I am sure she has wine, if anyone would like to come have a glass with her. Please check on Josh's mom also (I just won't tell everyone a party at her house also)
After that, start planning ways you can help, be creative! I know my students made sandwiches and wrote encouraging notes to tornado victims in Arkansas one year. Anything can bring smiles to people's faces. We will not be the only ones that need help. The Caribbean, Texas still need help, the fire victims in the north. We are all a family, we are all in this together, anything that helps any of them helps us all. It helps free up others to help in other places. And lastly, I will say it again, pray. We love yall!
*****I have not fully edited this, sorry. I just wanted you to see my thoughts, but I really need to finish filming everything in our house (incase the roof get ripped off and we need to make an insurance claim), get to the shop to help people, and mow the grass (not sure why I need to do that, but everyone keeps telling us to). I will try to update again soon. We are still over 24 hours away from it hitting. ********
