We decided to go to the horse races. They do it a little different though.
Josh, Courtney, Travis and I all went to the races. Courtney and I met at Lorna Jane working out, and after talking a little bit realized we had a lot in common. She is from the south, taught school in the states, and her husband works for Halliburton.
After asking around, we quickly learned that the horse races in Australia are a total fashion affair. The day before we went to the races Courtney and I went shopping for a hat or fascinator. We worked to find a new mall not inside the city. We went to the Indooroopilly Mall. It was fun exploring a new place, while looking for something totally out of our American comfort zone.
All the women at the races wear hats and fascinators. All the men wear ties and slacks. Every horse race is how everyone dresses when they go to the Kentucky Derby or Steeplechase.
It was a lot of fun to dress up and step out of my comfort zone. I mean come on, dress, heels, doesn't get much more out of my zone. Don't worry my chaco's were in my bag.
The people watching was great, all day.
It was funny though, you never knew when the races were going on. The announcer, you couldn't even hear. They had other things going on during the race activities.
They had a grape stomping race during the day.
You do not have to be at the races to place bets. You can place all the bets you want online. Because of this, the numbers of spectators are not that great, but looking good is high on everyones list that actually comes to the races.
They had a hair straightener in the bathroom you could use for $2.00. They also had a vending machine for flat shoes.
It was fun, but don't worry in no time at all, I was back home, in my comfy clothes reading my book.
