Months ago, I told Josh I really wanted to run The North Face 50 in the Blue Mountains. I mean watch the video above, who wouldn't want to run it? I couldn't talk anyone into running it with me, so had written it off as can't do.
Now, imagine my surprise when I opened my email the day sign up opened and saw this.
I was talking to Josh later about the weird email I got during the day. He didn't really say much, just "that's interesting." As soon as we hung up the phone I got a different e-mail from Josh. It was his congratulations letter for signing up.
Josh had not only signed me up, but signed us up. Josh decided it was time for him to run with me.
The picture below is one and a half months into training, we were about half way finished with Half Marathon training.
Day One, we did not just jump into training for a 50k. We did couch to 5k first, and then had time to do 5k to half marathon, and half marathon to 50k training plan.
We got caught in a rain storm on this particular run. We ran to a ferry stop and hopped on the ferry.
We are running four days a week. Sunday is tabatas day or stairs day. We kind of cheat though, we run 20 seconds on, 20 seconds off, or try to sprint stairs the entire time. We do this for a full hour. Tuesday is an hour of hill repeats on one hill. Thursday is an hour of rolling hills. Saturday is the day we get in distance. We have just finished our half marathon training and starting our 50k training. Let's pray we are ready! Everyone I keep asking about the race warns me, "There is a lot of stairs." Any pointers? Any encouragement for Josh? This 50k race will be his first race with distance, besides the half marathon him and my cousin completed. I can't wait for race day!
Josh will run his first trail race this weekend, he might need some encouragement. Anyone got tips, pointers, or encouragement?
