During our time in Australia we are really trying to learn as much as we can about Australia culture. One thing we hadn't done yet, was go to a cricket match. Well, let's just say I have A LOT to learn. Here are my questions I had during the match. I decided to write them down, instead of asking the photo bomber behind us everything. One of the men behind of us actually was one of my previous students fathers. He did answer a lot of my questions. I had a lot more though, anyone want to help explain?
If only one team has hit why has both teamed scored?
Why do they hit each other with the ball?
What is the goal?
What determines the other team gets to hit?
All they have to do is stop the ball?
Is it ok to stop the ball after they hit it and it bounces?
Why don't they wear gloves?
Why does the bowler run so far it doesn't seem to help him bowl faster?
When the ball stops is the play over?
After you hit it, is it the option of the batsman to run?
What is an over?
Are all ovals the same size?
Can the batsman out on the oval get out when he is not batting?
What is a free hit?
How many strikes/balls do thy get?
Why does the home team clap when the visitors hit the ball in the stands?
The fielders can just walk outside of the oval and drink while the game is going on?
Does the offense or defense want wickets?
Can the bowler pass the line when he bowls?
What is dot balls?
When they are getting people out, can they just throw the ball across the line or do that have to hit the wicket?
What order do you make your batsman list? Best hitters first?
Does the batsman not batting have to wait behind the line before they can run?
If the batter hits a fly ball if they catch it is it an out?
Do they have to wait to see if he will catch it to run?
Do the outfielders rotate each water break?
What does it mean when the bowler bowls away from batsman and the umpire puts both arms out wide?
Why does the umpire stop the batsman that just got out before they walk off the oval?
Luckily the Brisbane Heat put a short video out explaining it a little bit.
Anyone want to answer the rest of the questions?
